UPDATE ON OFFICE PARK BUILDING INCIDENT – MAHIKENG

Published on: 20 February 2026 Category: Media Statement

The North West Department of Health provides an update regarding the roof collapse that occurred on Friday, 10 October 2025, at the Office Park Building in Mahikeng. Following the incident, the Department immediately appointed a Professional Service Provider to conduct a full structural assessment and notified the Department of Labour in line with the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Prohibition notices were issued to restrict occupancy of affected areas pending completion of the structural report. Preliminary findings indicate that the collapse was caused by structural failure of timber trusses, worsened by ongoing roof leaks that weakened the structure. Additional defects were identified across the roof, as well as damage to ceilings and building systems. The Department is finalising specifications and the Bill of Quantities for remedial work. Supply Chain Management processes will follow to appoint a contractor. Construction is estimated to take approximately six months once commenced. Interim arrangements are being explored to accommodate affected staff. The safety of employees remains a priority, and further updates will be provided as progress continues. Ends.
