Dr Magome Masike, the Member of the Executive Council (NW EXCO) and Member of the Provincial Legislature

Dr Magome Masike was born from Buffelspoort Farm, near Klerksdorp . He is the former Mayor of Matlosana Municipality. He is a distinguished leader in the community, academia and politics. His contribution to the struggle for the improvement of people’s lives dates back to the 1970s as a youth in Stilfontein and also participated in structures such as AZASO, a fore-runner of the South African Students Congress (SASCO).

Dr Masike matriculated in Matlosana High School and further his studies at MEDUNSA and ultimately qualified as a Medical Doctor, he went on to acquire his MBA at North West University, Potchefstroom Campus. During his MBA studies, his thesis revolved around amalgamation of two hospitals – Klerksdorp and Tshepong Hospital which led to a prepared him for work in the country’s health sector. He remains active in the ANC health sector.

He was deployed as the Mayor of Klerksdorp and was very instrumental in the integration of Klerksdorp, Orkney, Stilfontein and Hartebeesfontein into the City of Matlosana. He then went to work for multinational IT Company (Oracle).

He served as Member of the ANC Provincial Task Team which was tasked to rebuild the ANC structures in the North West (2009 – 2010). He serves as Chairperson of the EXCO Social Cluster Committee and is further a member of the NEC Sub Committee on Health. He carries along vast experience in Information Technology and Health.

His responsibilities as MEC for Health focus on matters that are strategic, operational, national and provincial in character, such as accelerating the attainment of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). They also include delegations as they relate to the Ten Point Plan and priority areas for health - the Standards Compliance and Quality, District Health, Primary Health Care and Systems Strengthening. His leadership as the MEC for Heath has steered the ship to achieve the following:

  • Best Institutions on the Management of MDR/XDR TB
  • Strengthening Health Systems (Setting up Sound Governance Structures/Consultative Management with Stakeholders i.e Religious leadership inclusion into Health Care Provision of H
  • His leadership ensured BEST ANC LED - Health Department
  • His leadership brought about best HCT Campaign in the Country
